Project Summary
The Montgomery County Engineer’s Office is in the early stages of a roundabout project at the intersection of Catalpa Drive and Siebenthaler Avenue in Harrison Township. The project is intended to improve congestion and reduce crashes. A safety study in 2023 analyzed different alternatives such as a signal with turns lanes, signal with turn lanes only on Siebenthaler Avenue, signal with no turn lanes, a roundabout, and doing nothing. The results of this study favored a roundabout for both safety and traffic flow. These results can be viewed here.
After receiving funding from ODOT’s Highway Safety Improvement Program, a feasibility study was then conducted which analyzed the highest scoring signal alternative (the signal with turn lanes) from the safety study, three different roundabout layouts/locations, and doing nothing. A layout that was mostly centered on the intersection but shifted slightly to the northeast was selected based on safety, geometrics, utilities, property impacts, and other factors. These results can be viewed in the Feasibility study here.
The project is currently headed into early design stages and the county engineer’s office is now soliciting for public input on the project. Comments and questions about this intersection should be directed to Jerry Sanor of the Montgomery County Engineer’s Office at sanorj@mcohio.org or (937) 496-7685. The comment period will end on November 30th, 2025. Thank you for your interest and input!
