Project Summary
The Montgomery County Engineer is proposing to replace the existing bridge carrying Dayton Liberty Pike over an unnamed tributary to Opossum Creek. The project is located approximately 1.6 miles West of SR-4, near the intersection of Dayton Liberty Pike and Olt Road.
The existing Dayton Liberty Pike Bridge is in poor condition. The bottom of deck slab has several large spalls with exposed rebar. There are also spalls at the abutment bridge seats. All four wingwall footings have been exposed by scour and large areas of the abutment footings have spalled away.
The intent of the project is to completely replace the existing structure with a new concrete box culvert. The box will be realigned with the channel and extended to allow for guardrail to be mounted on top of the box. Scour protection will be added at the inlet and outlet. Full depth pavement reconstruction will occur in the immediate area of the structure, with additional milling and overlay outside of that area to tie into the existing pavement. Existing drain pipes will be removed and replaced to be compatible with the new structure and fix blockages in the existing pipes.
