Project Summary
The Montgomery County Engineer is proposing to rehabilitate the existing bridge carrying Diamond Mill Road over Bear Creek. The project is located approximately 0.5 miles South of SR-35, and 0.5 miles North of Mile Road.
The existing bridge is in poor condition and posted for reduced truck loads. The bottom of the deck slab has several large spalls with exposed rebar. Several of the bridge beams have widespread minor cracking. One of the spalled beams has exposed prestressing strands. There are also spalls at the corners of the abutments where they meet the wing walls. Channel scouring is prevalent extending 2.5’ below the substructure footings at the structure and cutting into the upstream embankment.
The proposed project scope is a complete superstructure replacement with composite prestressed concrete box beams. This project will also include substantial concrete repair at the abutment-wingwall interface. Scour protection will be installed reinforcing the existing abutment footings and the upstream channel embankment. Additional work involves the installation of new guardrail and associated roadway improvements.
